Nashville DJ Diaries | Four Alarm Fire Truck Getaway at Mint Springs Farm

Nobody is concerned about my safety when I leave the house to DJ an event.  I might pull a muscle lifting speakers, stub a finger on a bad cut, or get a beer spilled on me.  But aside from traversing Nashville traffic, I have a pretty safe job.  Every now and again, I am reminded of those in the world that do NOT have a safe job.  It's hard for me to get my head around jobs that are absolute necessities but carry with them a chance of serious injury or even death.  I would like to remind everyone that no matter your political leaning, please remember that every Police Officer, Soldier and Firefighter risks their lives every day they clock in.  It is a selfless act that they perform.  This was weighing on me heavily as I prepared for Adam and Julia's wedding.

Adam is a firefighter with the Lavergne fire department which means every day that he goes to work he faces a possibility of injury or worse.  A guy like Adam could only marry a strong person that can watch him walk out the door each day.  And talk about a strong person.  Julia represents many spouses, both male and female, whose strength and support makes it possible for someone like Adam to go out and do his job keeping us safe.  I imagine that no matter how strong the love and bond is, there would have to be an underlying fear of loss present.  For me as a observer this weighed on me.  I have a profound respect for the sacrifice that Adam and Julia were making and all couples out there who are in their shoes.

With all the heaviness aside, I can tell you that their wedding was a celebration!  I think a by product of working in a dangerous profession is that when it's time to let loose and party that all bets are off! I got a lot of joy in watching Adam's crew let loose.  Their friends danced with each others family members and everyone seemed as if they were in one big family.  It was a beautiful sunny day at Mint Springs Farm, and I couldn't help but notice that it was fitting that we were surrounded by so much water!  My favorite part of the day, however, was the get away car.  It was a beautiful old fire engine named "Susie!"  These two were going to drive away like they were going to a four alarm fire!

But as a DJ I need to, at some point, talk about music.  I'm choosing to talk about a newer song that couldn't have been more appropriate for these two.  Their first dance was "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" by Megan Trainor and John Legend.  Wow.  I have a hard time even thinking about it.  I'm going to post the lyrics because I think this song speaks for the whole day and represents the amazing love these two had for each other.

I found myself dreaming
In silver and gold
Like a scene from a movie
That every broken heart knows we were walking on moonlight
And you pulled me close
Split second and you disappeared and then I was all alone

I woke up in tears
With you by my side
A breath of relief
And I realized
No, we're not promised tomorrow

So I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you
I'm gonna hold you
Like I'm saying goodbye wherever we're standing
I won't take you for granted 'cause we'll never know when
When we'll run out of time so I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you
I'm gonna love you like I'm gonna lose you

[John Legend:]
In the blink of an eye
Just a whisper of smoke
You could lose everything
The truth is you never know

So I'll kiss you longer baby
Any chance that I get
I'll make the most of the minutes and love with no regrets

Let's take our time
To say what we want
Use what we got
Before it's all gone
'Cause no, we're not promised tomorrow

[Both:]
So I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you
I'm gonna hold you
Like I'm saying goodbye wherever we're standing
I won't take you for granted 'cause we'll never know when
When we'll run out of time so I'm gonna love you
Like I'm gonna lose you

So congratulations Adam and Julia!  Thank you both for the hard work and sacrifice you make to keep us safe.  I also, with utmost respect, thank all the Firefighters, Police and Soldiers who risk their families and safety in the cause of our freedoms and protection.
