Flowers are delivered, candy comes in cardboard heart-shaped boxes, chocolate covered strawberries are sold out in every local market, and trying to go out to eat at a nice restaurant will likely land you going through a drive-thru so your significant other can stop being hangry because you waited too late to make dinner reservations. Not to be negative but as romance-filled as Valentines Day can be, it can be hard to create an intimate environment when you're surrounded by 1,000 other people sitting nearby. So instead of fighting crowds and being stressed about the perfect gift or gesture, why not create a special night at home just for you + yours? If you're not celebrating Valentine's Day with a significant other this year, don't fret. Seize the opportunity to have the girliest celebration ever, and throw a Galentine's Day party for your close friends. You could go shopping, take yourself out to dinner, indulge in spa treatments, have a Keeping Up with the Kardashians marathon, listen to Lemonade.. whatever makes you happy! So we compiled a list of easy-to-DIY ways to entertain your bae, your friends, and yourself on this chalky heart shaped candy holiday. With these tips, you're sure to be the hostess with the mostest during the season of love.
// Create the perfect playlist on your laptop or smart phone, using a digital music provider such as Spotify or iTunes. Fill your playlist with songs that give you that warm, fuzzy feeling of love.
// Set the mood before dinner with the perfect hors d'oeuvre like a wine + cheese tasting, or make your gal pals smile and dance with a pitcher of margaritas + queso. Wait, is that just my fantasy? Either way, here's one of my personal favorite blogs list of grocery store cheeses and wine pairings that are sure to make your honey question life before they met you.
// Write down all of the things you love about your significant other, your friends, and yo' self on tiny pieces of paper, and place them all around the house where they can be found for subtle surprises and words of love. There's nothing like a sweet surprise to keep emotions and confidence on cloud nine for the rest of the week.
// Since you won't be renting a photo booth from Snyder Entertainment for the evening, just capture your own special photo-ops. Snapchat pictures of your celebration, but don't forget to ask Snyder Entertainment's design team to create a personalized Snapchat geofilter to add a personal touch to your night in!
// Games are always fun when you're surrounded by your friends + your significant other, plus they can add some additional excitement and fun into your party. A few of our favorites:
- "Name That Love Song" | Pick out several lines from love songs and write them down on sheets of paper. You can use old songs like “I Will Survive”, “Baby I Love Your Way” or more current songs like “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and “Love You like a Love Song.” Give each guest a song and they are to do a dramatic reading of the song. Have the other players try to guess the name of the song. The one with the most correct guesses wins.
- "Whose Your Mate?" | This game is similar to the Newlywed Game. Have one person from each couple leave the room. The host/hostess tailors some planned questions to the group and to certain couples. The other half of each couple stays in the room, and answers questions about their mate/date. They’re supposed to answer each question the way they think their mate/date would respond. They need to write each answer down, so that when their partner returns he/she can give their own answer to each question. Assign point values for each question that is a match. Then reverse roles of the couples for the next set of questions. The couple with the most points wins a prize. Make sure the prize is something they can share!
// End the night with an in-home spa treatment. Press play on your favorite slow jamz, add bubble bath, light candles around the tub, dim the lights, fluff some of your favorite towels and your comfiest robe, and prepare to pamper yourself. Don't forget to grab a bottle of champagne: pop, clink, fizz, and cheers to loving yourself!
